Task 4(a): Social Media (Soundcloud Page and Blog Post)

My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/itskittn

I work under the artist name KITTN which is short for Kitten, I chose this name because I believe it fits me as a person, I can be really nice and "cute" but also very fierce and dangerous. The name is very brandable since it's one word and you immediately associate the image of a cat when you hear it. It's easy to pronounce and to remember so when people see it they will also recognise it easily again.
My logo was made by a friend of mine, it's very simple and consists of the word KITTN written in capital letters on a black background and the I in KITTN is replaced with a cat, all in all it looks quite sleek and I like just using black, white and grey because it reflects my clothing style.
The banner for my Soundcloud page was also created by a friend who is an artist and photographer and he came up with the concept of a cat skull and the a black texture with cat heads that have X's as eyes in the background which fits to the logo. The banner is meant to look a bit more menacing and dark than the logo, because the name KITTN like I said earlier is more happy and cute but a lot of my music actually reflects the darker side more so I really wanted to reflect that with the visual of the banner art. I might change the banner in near future due to feedback I received that it doesn't quite fit my branding but as long as I don't have anything better I will keep it.
As for my bio, I decided not to put anything there (I want to let the music speak for itself rather than list all my achievements there) except this weird cat emoji: and the word "Create" which to me is very important because I believe that everyone should live their life and do what they want and to me it is to create music. I see writing music in a different way, I'm not just writing music but I'm creating soundscapes, I'm creating a sonic story, I'm creating emotions in the person who listens to it, I'm provoking a certain mood in them and I'm rekindling memories while they are listening to my creation. A couple of years ago it was standard practise to write a long bio talking about yourself and your achievements in the third person but nowadays artists tend to just give their contact and booking details and maybe list the label/-s they are signed to. Examples of big artists with a lot of radioplay that have very scarce bio's are: Zedd, Martin Garrixx, Diplo, Major Lazer, DJ Snake and a lot more.
I do not believe that people should follow me on soundcloud for the things I have achieved but rather for the music they enjoy and want to listen to. If I apply for a job I will definitely list all my achievements and credits but in my opinion soundcloud is not the place to list them.
I also linked my second account where I only upload unofficial remixes that might be taken down due to copyright issues and my email so people can contact me or send me promos.
My other social media accounts are also linked on my Soundcloud and set up similarly, they have the same logo and banner. I mainly use Facebook for giving updates on music and posting things I enjoy and want to share with other people. My Instagram account is for posting previews and teasers on music, my Twitter account is inactive and dead because I dislike using that platform and lastly my Twitch account which I will start doing live streams once my fanbase is bigger and the demand for it grows.
My page itself is set up so that my newest music is in the Spotlight on the top of the page, under that there is a playlist with all my music then my original music and last but not least all my remixes. I made this so that it is easy to go through all of my music or just quickly find a track that you like. I bought the pro unlimited subscription from because I like to see all the statistics and be able to put the things in the spotlight so the people who visit my page have an easier time finding what they are looking for. Since I am a hardcore Soundcloud user I also bought Soundcloud Go which I really think is worth the money for me since I have all the music I love on that platform and want to support it and also be able to listen to it offline on my phone when I don't have wifi.

I aspire to work as a composer and/or sound designer for a videogame company because I am very passionate about both videogames and music and combining both elements would be a dream come true. As for my personal artist developement, my goal is to build a loyal fanbase of around 10.000+ soundcloud followers in the next three years and play some shows and hopefully be able to tour a bit internationally.
My plan for aquiring a solid fanbase is to release singles through "soundcloud promotion labels" like for example: Tribal Trap, Prema collective, Swang, Home Bvss, Molly recs, CRWN,  etc. and slowly gain followers and attention from bigger soundcloud based labels such as Artist Intelligence Agency and then try to release through them in future. What is also essential is to collaborate and work with different artists to promote to their audience and make their followers your fans.

Project 4, Session diary 7: Mick Gordon's DOOM soundtrack

Week 3, Monday 15th of May Goals: Optimize workflow, continue working on the instrumental, practice sound design in serum and with the Korg Volca Bass, write notation for instruments to record Resources: DAW (FL Studio, Logic), instruments (guitar, piano, etc.), leads, mics, Diary: I completed 3 of the 4 goals I set myself this week, I practiced sound design and wrote a blog post about how I jammed with the Korg Volca Bass. I continued working on the instrumental and have nearly completed it now. I tested the mix in MIT 3 through the Genelec speakers and wrote down some things I need to focus on and change to make it cleaner. I also restructured my room to create a more comfortable working environment, I moved my bed to the window to create more space to sit at the desk and removed equipment I don’t use to have more desk space. This really helped me optimize my workflow because I didn’t have things lying around and distracting me and additionally I could easily get t...

Project 4, Session Diary 11: More feedback and track changes

In my last entry I stated that I would re-record the vocal but after long and careful consideration and some more feedback from friends and tutors, I decided to keep the take we had already recorded. My reasoning behind choosing not to re-record the vocal is that I really like the take, I think that we captured the emotions of the song. There are a couple of intricacies of her performance which I think could not be replicated. I tested the Rode NT1A with Lauren and in my opinion, it does sound better than the TLM 103 by Neumann. Her voice sounds fuller and more natural but I think for this specific song the TLM 103 was the right choice because the vocal is a bit more breathy and almost heavenly. It’s quite hard to describe but the sound of it melds well with the instrumental. On Monday in sequencing skills, I presented my track to the class and my lecturer Shea and received very positive feedback. He said that I should sit down and mix the vocal again but not re-record it. W...

Project 4, Session Diary 10: Feedback from friends and tutors

Current version of song which I showed the people giving me feedback: https://clyp.it/dvawbtpy Today in Professional Industry Practice I approached a couple of my friends and my tutor Colin Doran to give me feedback on my song. I received very positive feedback overall and the main improvement points from my friends, Callum, Chloe, Alex, and Christie were to record some harmonies with the vocal, add some toms to the buildup before the chorus for extra tension and to make the vocal a bit louder in the parts where Lauren is singing quite low. Colin was very critical about the track but he said it is a very good song and has incredible potential. He suggested to rethink some parts of the arrangement because I the piano melody is very strong and needs to show a bit more sometimes, this could be achieved by some volume automation. The vocal sounded a bit muddy to him and he told me to experiment with different microphones and possibly record some counter melodies and harm...
